I have always loved Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. I first saw them in one of my artist mother’s book that sat on her bookshelf. I remember two that I especially liked, “Starry Night” and “Bridge at Arles”. I loved the simplicity, the bold color, sweeping strokes and a childlike innocence.
Recently someone said to me, “Those colors are not really correct” about a painting I had done of a prairie field. I apologized and thought that I should do better. But reflecting on the paintings of Vincent, it could have been something that was said to him. I think I will not listen to those voices – we all need more color in our lives, and there is nothing wrong with that.
