Visual Meditations on a 3-Legged Stool. “What We Need is Here” – Artists Group Exhibition in April at the Phipps Center Gallery in Hastings.
Sept 2016 through April 2017, a dedicated group of local artists (of which I belong) gather at the Phipps Center in Hastings, MN and off-site locations in the St. Croix River Valley watershed for a series of seminars once a month exploring these overarching questions: What are sustainable art making practices? What is the role of artists to increase public understanding of art and sustainable issues? And, how can artists effect change?
“On Shaky Ground” will feature new work by participating artists that relates to their experiences during the seminar series. The “3-legged stool” in the subtitle refers to the need for balance and stability – economic, environmental, and social – to create sustainable, thriving communities. This group exhibit seeks to engage audiences to consider ways to move toward this goal with inclusion and grace. For future posts I will talk about what thought process I am going thru to develop a piece of work for this exhibit. For now, it has me stumped.
